Teaching demo

1-1 demo of charcoal portrait drawing, thinking Frank Auerbach - 3-5mins

Late nights early mornings

It’s 1.15am and we are going to bed. The alarm is set for 5.30am. We stayed up working to meet a self imposed deadline that we set with Lenka to finish a pdf of our projects to send out to galleries and museums. We could have slacked it off and told Lenka that we couldn’t do it. There are a whole list of valid reasons why we wouldn’t have been able to do it. Kitchen renovations, assessments at college, a sick child. But instead we decided to stay up really really late to finish it. Because otherwise We will continue to feel frustrated and disappointed that we aren’t moving forward we have invested this sleep time in our future fingers crossed it was a wise investment

Waiting, Law of Attraction and a collaboration offer

This morning we arrived early at the studio where Dan has private teaching on a Thursday. We were talking in the car and realised that we were discussing a relevant topic and decided to record it to turn our conversation into art practice.

We were discussing the Law of Attraction and the notion that what you put your focus on grows. We are finding that we are talking a lot about not having enough time. We mention it all the time and we are even making a project about it. But could it be that by talking about it all the time and focussing so much on not having enough time, we are perpetuating the cycle? Could it be that we need to make space to allow for having more time? The more time we think we have, the more we can create and the more time we will have?

If anyone is reading and listening to this, there is an offer to you at the end of the recording. Love Sharon and Dan

School run chronicles

Made a start on recording a narration of the school run. I was nervous about how it would sound and what I would say so I’ve been procrastinating. But today I’m early and so I decided to stop and set up the phone to start recording. I recorded a narration of the journey from Bisley to Oakridge. It’s the start of the creative process. I’ll see where it takes me.

Maps

“Maps helped to promote the idea of a friendly and welcoming land”.

Quote from the Renaissance map collection at The American museum, Bath.

To do or not to do that is the question

When I’m working at home, I feel a constant tension of what to focus on. Do I focus on art practice or should I quickly pop that wash on the line while it’s nice and windy? Shall I write this blog post or put the shopping away? You can guess which one I chose as you are reading this. My future self is not going to like this choice when I have hungry children later needing their dinner asap. Oh well, at least we will have dry washing.

“You’ve got nice hair though”

Sharon here. I’m feeling particularly time poor today and am rushing around driving here and there. By the end of the day, I will have driven for about 3 hours.

I feel that this time poor was is somewhat my own doing as I had my hair done this morning. So I chose to spend a couple of hours of my week getting my hair done. I haven’t had my hair done for nearly 3 months so this is not a regular occurrence. However, with so much to do, I am left feeling like I wasted time this morning.

despite this I just had a very productive hour long meeting with Sarah and after my moaning about having to rush off again Sarah has just told me “you have nice hair though”. It made me think. Is that enough? I do have nice hair now and I feel so much better for having it done. I am someone who loves getting their hair done. It’s an important part of my well-being. So why am I seeing investing in my well-being as a waste of time? Surely it’s time well spent?

Sandtimer activities

Instead of using a clock to measure time we could use sand timers to time specific activities. We could plan the day in advance. Know what length of time is available and how long we want to spend on each task, then ditch the clocks and use sand timers to measure and guide us through the day.
